HASSAN: A BJP-supported member of the Nerlige Gram Panchayat allegedly allegedly barged into the Javagal police station and abused Sub-Inspector Shobha Bharamakkannavar and een pushed her around for arresting some people who were involved in gambling.
Ever since she was posted at Javagal, Sub-Inspector Shobha Bharamakkannavar has cracked down on gambling dens. On September 15, she and her team had arrested some men who were gambling near Nerligi village. Among them was gram panchayat member Srinivas’ brother and some friends and cases were registered against them.
Srinivas had tried to call the SI over the issue, but the officer had not received his calls. On Thursday night, when Shobha Bharamakkannavar was on duty, Srinivas, who was allegedly in a heavily inebriated state, barged into the police station and started yelling at the officer saying, “You don’t receive my call nor call back. I’ll have you transferred from here”.
When the officer told him that he should not come to a police station drunk and asked him to leave, Srinivas started abusing her in foul language and pushed her around. The other police personnel at the station immediately subdued Srinivas.
“It is prima facie seen that Srinivas attempted to assault the SI. Based on a complaint from Shobha Bharamakkannavar, a case has been registered against Srinivas. It has come to light that earlier too, he has attacked police personnel”, Hassan said Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar.
