Govt yet to release scholarship for OBC students

BENGALURU: After minority students, the state government has not released scholarships even for OBC students. Despite spending crores of rupees elsewhere, the government is struggling to provide scholarships to students, raising questions about the state’s financial situation.

The government has failed to release scholarships for the 2024-25 academic year and hasn’t cleared the pending scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year for graduation and post-graduation students of various courses. Over 6.5 lakh students have applied for scholarships, but only 1.5 lakh students have received them so far. The government has not provided any clarity on when the remaining students will receive their scholarships.

In the 2024-25 academic year, 6,52,414 post-matric students applied for scholarships of whom only 1,55,886 students have received scholarships so far from the Backward Classes Department. The department has not provided any clarity on the scholarships of the remaining students.

Rukmini CollegeAdditionally, the government has not released scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year and has delayed the release for the 2024-25 academic year. The Backward Classes Department announced that it will release the pending scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year during the 2024-25 academic year.

The government’s inability to provide scholarships to students on time has raised questions about the state’s financial crunch.
