BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed his condolence on the passing away of well-known writer and novelist S L Bhyrappa and met family members at Ravindra Kala Kshetra where Bhyrappa’s body was kept for public viewing. The CM said that the literature world has lost a great personality. “Bhyrappa studied from high school to MA in Mysuru and his novels have been translated into 40 languages”, the CM noted.

“Bhyrappa was born in a small village, but he made a significant contribution to the literary world. He used to say that writing novels gave him immense satisfaction. Although I couldn’t read all his novels, I have read a few. May his soul rest in peace”, CM said.

Responding to calls for a memorial for Bhyarappa, CM said, “The government will take all necessary steps to build a memorial in Mysuru. We will build a memorial for him. I think there is no other place more suitable than Mysuru”.

CM said, “SL Bhyrappa deserved the Jnanpith award. It seems like he felt the pain of not receiving the award. Despite differences in ideology, we respect his contributions. He will be given a state funeral with all honours. When we were in Patna, Vishweshwar Bhatt called me and said that Bhyrappa should have received the Jnanpith award, but he didn’t seem to have any resentment about it.”
