BENGALURU: With talk of revision of school syllabus doing the rounds, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has already clarified that there will be no complete textbook revision in the current academic year and only some controversial parts will be dropped.
The CM has also given oralinstruction to the Primary Education Department in this regard and had discussed it with Primary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa on Tuesdayday. The CM instructed the department to make a list of controversial parts of the syllabus in this academic year and to also list out those parts to which some people from the literary and cultural fields had raised objections. In all likelihood, those bits may be taken off the textbooks.
The government will take a decision after a review of the controversial parts of the syllabus by the Education Department will issue a circular to the schools in this regard later.
Meanwhile, writer Baraguru Ramachandrappa has rejected chairmanship of the Karnataka textbook revision committee, which was proposed by the government.
The government had requested him to head the textbook revision committee. Even Minister Madhu Bangarappa had met Baraguru Ramachandrappa recently and made a request with him, but he refused to join the committee.
Ramachandrappa only said that he will not be in the committee, but would give suggestions. Therefore, the government now plans to set up a committee under the chairmanship of some other eminent personality.
