BENGALURU: The Bus Prayanikara Vedike, in association with an NGO, has started a campaign and appealed to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to bring down the fares of BMTC buses and provide more buses in the city.
The forum has appealed to the government and Chief Minister Bommai to allocate adequate funds for the BMTC in the state budget on February 17. The commuters have demanded more buses in the city, revised prices, free passes for women, third-gendered people, and senior citizens, and to appoint more staff for BMTC bus.
“I urge the government and the Chief Minister to provide free bus passes to working women and to provide more BMTC buses in the city. I support this campaign and I want the CM to allocate money in the budget”, said a campaign supporter.
“The Vedike had organised a campaign at Majestic bus stand to demand allocation of funds for BMTC in the state budget. There are 6,500 BMTC buses in which 5,600 buses are old. We need 12,000 buses to transport 1.4 million people, but we only have 6,500. Our demand is that the government deploy more BMTC buses and staff. Other states provide free bus passes to students, senior citizens, transgender people, and women. BMTC is an important part of the city for commuting”, said Vinayak of Bangalore Bus Prayanikara Vedike.
