BENGALURU: Government schools are gearing up to counter private schools by launching a massive admission drive in November. The government and education department have decided to start the enrollment process for the upcoming academic year early in order to boost admissions in government schools.
The new drive aims to give government schools a competitive edge over private schools, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to announce the programme soon.
Generally, admissions in government schools are in May or June, which gives private schools an advantage. Private schools would often complete their admission process for the upcoming adacemic year by October or November, leaving government schools with fewer options.

The education department is launching this initiative keeping in mind the amenities offered by private schools. Government schools offer various facilities like smart classes, computer labs, free bus services, KPS school, LKG, UKG classes and more, which will be highlighted to attract parents.
The department aims to dispel the misconception that government schools lack quality education. They plan to showcase the benefits of government schools, such as free uniforms, shoes, mid-day meals, eggs and bananas, which are not always available in private schools.
The government’s plan is to promote the facilities available in government schools and increase admissions. The government hopes to attract more students and change the perception about government schools by highlighting the benefits and quality education offered.
