Govt residential school students showcase talents at Science Expo 2023

BENGALURU: For the first time, the state government organised a two-day Science Expo event for students of residential school where they got to showcase their talents at the Palace Grounds, on Saturday.

More than 50,000 people participated in the two-day Science Expo 2023.

The two-day science expo was conducted by the Karnataka Social Welfare Department. A total of 1,156 schools, including 830 schools of the Karntaka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS) and 326 schools of the Minority Welfare Department, participated in the science expo.

The Indian Army also participated in the expo and showcased weapons and clothing used by them. The ISRO, IISC, Agastya Foundation, Visvesvaraya Museum and Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium demonstrated science experiments, model rockets, airplanes and helicopters.

“We organised a two-day science expo for the first time in the state. The aim is to bring a scientific attitude and perspective and to encourage students. This platform is an opportunity for students to showcase their talents. We have organised this expo in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, the Minority Welfare Department, KREIS and Backward Classes Welfare Department. The expo had three different themes and students showcased many working models. More than 50,000 people participated in it. We have decided to organise this expo every year to showcase the talents of government school children”, said Dr Rakesh Kumar K, Commissioner, Social Welfare Department.

“The science expo organised by the government is helpful for students to showcase their talents. This is a big platform for students and teachers. It is a golden opportunity for students as many come from rural background and many times, they do not get an opportunity to showcase their talents”, said Reshma, a science teacher.
