BENGALURU: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is facing a revenue crisis due to unpaid water bills from various government departments. The total amount owed to BWSSB is Rs 183.25 crore. Despite numerous notices, several departments have failed to pay their dues, putting BWSSB in a difficult financial situation.
The BWSSB’s main source of revenue is water supply and sewerage charges collected from various government departments. However, many departments have not paid their bills, resulting in significant losses for the BWSSB.
Central government offices owes Rs 25.70 crore, State government Rs 87.91 crore, the BBMP Rs 23.14 crore, Statutory statutory bodies owe Rs 10.48 crore, and the Defence Department owes Rs 35.99 crore to BWSSB.
The civic body is doing its best to recover the dues from these departments. The Board has issued several notices, but the departments have not responded. Hence, the BWSSB is planning to issue fresh notices to these departments to recover the dues.
Non-payment of water bills by government departments has put BWSSB in a financial crisis. The board is finding it difficult to manage its finances due to the huge arrears. The board expects the government departments to pay their bills soon so that it can manage its finances smoothly.
Total dues for the central government agencies are Rs 25.70 crore which includes arrears of Rs 20.86 crore and interest of Rs 4.84 crore; state government dues are Rs 87.91 crore of which arrears are Rs 53.45 crore and interest is Rs 34.45 crore. The BBMP has unpaid bills totaling Rs 23.14 crore of which arrears account Rs 7.60 crore, and interest of Rs 15.53 crore, sStatutory bodies owe Rs 10.48 crore of which arrears are Rs 6.75 crore and interest of Rs 3.72 crore. The Defence services have total dues bills f Rs 35.99 crore of which arrears are Rs 33.56 crore and interest is Rs 2.43 crore.
