BENGALURU: The white- topping work on Goods Shed Road, a major artery in the city, has turned into an accident hotspot, especially for two-wheeler riders. The stretch has witnessed numerous accidents, with riders frequently falling due to the uneven surface.

The issue lies in the difference in height between the white-topped surface and the interlocking tiles, which is causing the accidents. Locals claim that the road’s maintenance has been neglected ever since the white-topping was done, exacerbating the problem.

Residents say they have repeatedly alerted local representatives and authorities about the issue, but to no avail. The accidents continue to occur, with people often being helped and sent on their way with just a glass of water.

“The white-topping was done about five years ago and from the day the work was completed, two-wheeler accidents have been happening because of the height difference between the white-topped surface and the interlocking bricks. A youth died after a similar accident about a week ago. We have complained to the MLA, but nothing has been done as no one knows who the contractor is”, said Vijay Kumar, a local.

“It looks like a small thing, but is a big danger for two-wheeler riders. There have been several accidents happening every day. We have helped so many victims and several complaints have yielded nothing”, said Nadeem, another resident.
