BAGALKOT, BELAGAVI: The head of the Babaladi Math at Jamakhandi, Sadashiva Hiremath Mutya, has been arrested by the police in connection with financial irregularities in a cooperative bank. The godman is popular among his devotees for his annual predictions.
According to Belagavi SP Bhimashankar Guled, the godman was arrested on Saturday night after it was established that he had received a huge donation. He was taken to the Gokak police station where he was being questioned.
The godman had reportedly received a donation of Rs 80 lakh from an accused involved in financial irregularities in the Mahalakshmi Cooperative Bank in Gokak. The bank had suffered huge losses on account of the irregularities.
