BELAGAVI: Two days after the North Goa administration imposed a ban on movement of heavy vehicles through the Chorla Ghat, the decision was revised Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil held discussions with North Goa DC Mamu Hage.
In a notification dated September 21, 2022, the North Goa DC had stated that based on the report of the police, movement of heavy vehicles has been restricted on the Keri-Belagavi highway up to March 19, 20023. As a result, trucks carrying perishables and other items were stuck on the Goa border near Kanakumbi in Khanapur taluk leading to Chorla Ghat since Sunday evening.
Now, the Goa authorities have agreed to permit movement of heavy vehicles between 10 pm and 5 am. Following this, movement of trucks has resumed during night hours.
Truckers used to take the Chorla Ghat road as the Ramanagara-Goa road has been closed for repair work for the last three years.
Transporters had pointed out that travelling via Karwar will be about 250 km more and had demanded that alternative arrangements be made till the Ramanagara-Goa road is ready.
