KOLAR: Girl students of the Dr B R Ambedkar Women’s College hostel here staged a protest against the lack of basic facilities among other demands. They even formed a human chain and blocked traffic in front of the hostel for some time after foregoing their breakfast.

The protesting students complained that they are not being provided hygenic food at the hostel and that they do not even get water or soap kits for the last three months. Even basic facilities are not available and the officials concerned are not even bothered about them, they charged.

The students said there are over 300 inmates in the hostel run by the Social Welfare Department, but has only 12 washrooms, some of which don’t have proper doors. “Even the kitchen stinks and no amount of complaining to the authorities has helped”, they rued.

The protesting students insisted that they will not give up their protest until all their demands are met. Officials immediately rushed to the hostel and promised the girls that their grievances would be sorted out by the end of the day following which the girls called off their protest.
