MANGALURU: In a horrifying hit-and-run case at Lady Hill here, a speeding car knocked down five girls who were walking on the footpath, killing one of them and leaving four injured. The deceased was identified as Roopashri (23).
In CCTV footage available, the Hyundai Eon car can be seen ploughing into four girls walking on the footpath and then knocking down another girl as it gets back on to the road. The incident occurred around 3.50 pm on Wednesday.
The injured Swathi (26), Hitanvi (16), Kartika (16) and Yatika (12) were admitted to a hospital for treatment of injuries. A security guard who was witness to the incident said the car was at high speed and did not stop. One of the victims died on the spot, he added.
The car driver Kamalesh Baldev later went to the police station along with his father and surrendered. The Pandeshwar police have registered a case and taken up further investigation.
