BENGALURU: Henceforth, stray dogs cannot be fed in any random place. As the number of stray dog bite cases rises, the Supreme Court has intervened to put the brakes on the menace.
The Supreme Court’s directive has prompted the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to be on alert. Consequently, new rules for feeding strays will soon be introduced in Bengaluru.
Many people are falling victim to rabies from stray dog bites. There have been instances of children and the elderly being bitten. The Supreme Court has taken these cases seriously and issued certain directives to the municipal corporations. Accordingly, the GBA is preparing to implement several rules.
Rules for feeding dogs :
- Officials from the animal‑husbandry department will identify specific spots under the GBA’s jurisdiction where street dogs can be fed quickly — outside these designated areas,
- No one can feed them anywhere else except these places.
- People will be warned of action if they feed dogs at undesignated places, violating the Supreme Court order
- Citizens can adopt and raise stray dogs under the guidelines of the Animal Welfare Board.
- The corporation has opened a helpline to complain about the public feeding them elsewhere.
