GBA says offices, institutions will be responsible in case of dog bite cases

BENGALURU: After ordering teachers, hospitals, doctors and institutions to provide information about stray dogs, which was met with opposition, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has now asked offices and institutions to report such information.

The GBA Chief Commissioner has warned that if information about stray dogs is not provided, offices and institutions will be made responsible in case of dog bite cases.

The chief commissioner said offices and institutions will be held responsible when a street‑dog attacks road users.

The GBA is requesting information about street dogs As per aupreme Court directives in order to shift them to shelters. While some have responded, others have not.

“Furthermore, it is mandatory for educational institutions, hospitals, and other office entities to appoint a nodal officer for providing information on stray dogs. If a nodal officer is not appointed, they will have to bear the cost of treatment and compensation when a dog bites”, Maheshwar Rao said.

“Information about some stray dogs has been provided and notices have been issued to about 1,028 institutions so far. So far, information about 802 dogs has been obtained and more information on stray dogs is still awaited”, he said.
