BENGALURU: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is planning to set up waste kiosks in various parts of the city to address the issue of littering and improper waste disposal. The kiosks will be managed by marshals who will ensure that people dispose of waste properly.

The initiative aims to prevent people from throwing waste on the streets and to promote proper waste disposal practices. Additionally, the GBA is planning to call for new tenders to address the issue of garbage autorickshaw problems. Many areas in Bengaluru have reported a lack of waste autos, making it difficult for residents to dispose of waste.

Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner M Maheshwara Rao said, “The new tenders for 33 packages will be finalised after the court order and it will help faster day-to-day garbage clearance. At some places, people are dumping garbage despite door-to-door collection because they don’t want to keep waste in their house for even six hours. We are identifying places where we can set up kiosks near blackspots for collection of garbage”.

The GBA has been taking various initiatives to address the waste management issue in the city, including imposing fines on those who litter and conducting awareness campaigns. The success of the kiosk initiative remains to be seen.
