BENGALURU: Vehicle owners in the city would do well to watch where they park their vehicles as the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is gearing up to start towing away vehicles parked on roadsides and footpaths.
Six towing vehicles have already been purchased and handed over to the city traffic police. The GBA will soon issue a notification to start towing, and vehicles parked on roadsides, footpaths or in front of houses will be towed away, and owners will face fines under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The GBA and traffic police will jointly carry out towing operations, and owners will have to pay fines for violating rules. The move aims to address traffic congestion and parking issues in the city, Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic) Karthik Reddy told Public TV.
The GBA plans to cover all the five city corporations under its jurisdiction and towing vehicles have been allocated to each. The notification is expected soon, and towing operations will start thereafter.
