BENGALURU: The garbage problem in Bengaluru is affecting the city’s beauty. Despite various initiatives by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), people continue to litter the streets. To address this, GBA is launching a unique awareness campaign.

Starting Thursday, the GBA will collect garbage dumped on roads and dump it in front of houses of those were responsible for the mess. The goal is to educate people about the importance of maintaining the city’s cleanliness. The GBA has been imposing fines on those caught littering, but the practice of littering continues. Through this campaign, they aim to convey the message that littering is unacceptable.

The GBA officials had urged citizens to segregate wet and dry waste and deposit it in designated autos. They also request people to report if garbage collection autos don’t come to their doorsteps on time, promising to take action against defaulters.

Karigowda, CEO of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management, said that GBA is collecting wet and dry waste from households using auto tippers for the convenience of citizens. However, people continue to litter on roads despite fines of Rs 500- Rs 1,000.

The campaign aims to raise awareness among citizens about responsible waste disposal. If that is the case, the GBA will make them understand what will happen if any households dump garbage wherever they will. Citizens can report issues with garbage collection autos on GBA’s WhatsApp number. The civic body will take suitable action against defaulters, ensuring timely waste collection.
