BENGALURU: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has launched a major crackdown on property tax evasion, sending notices to around 10,000 property owners who have allegedly under-declared their property values.

The move is part of a larger effort to increase revenue collection, with the GBA using GPS data and drone images to identify properties that have been under-assessed.

According to officials, many property owners have been paying lower taxes for years, with some cases dating back five years. The total tax evasion is estimated to be around Rs 370 crore.

The BBMP has issued around 49,000 notices to property owners, giving them 15 days to respond online or file an appeal. Those who fail to respond will face further action, including tax recovery and penalties.

The crackdown is being carried out in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and involves a door-to-door survey of properties across five city corporations in Bengaluru.
