BENGALURU: The Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd (BSWML), which comes under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has floated new tenders with stricter rules to address the city’s garbage problem. The tender rules includes fines on contractors for inefficiencies, aiming to improve waste collection and disposal.
The tendering is divided into 33 packages, covering the entire city. The tender process has already begun, and the new rules aim to hold contractors accountable for waste management. Citizens will still face fines for dumping waste on roads.
Key changes — Fines on contractors for:
- Market and garden cleanliness – Rs 5,000.
- Black spots – Rs 100 per spot per day)
- Digital attendance – Rs 500 per day.
- Drinking and misconduct- Rs 10,000.
- Unauthorised staff changes – Rs 10,000.
- Dumping waste at unauthorized locations – Rs 50,000 + police complaint.
- Contractors must buy new autorickshaws with GPS.
- Fines for waste spillage from autos.
- Contractors will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness in markets, gardens, and public areas.
The effectiveness of these new measures, however, remains to be seen.
