BENGALURU: After Bengaluru’s mess, it now seems to be the turn of villages on the outskirts. The residents of villages coming Bannerghatta gram panchayath have complained that mounds of garbage have piled up on the main road near the panchayat premsies and near Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) and alleged that the officials concerned have not bothered to take any action against the garbage problem.

Garbage is dumped along the Bannerghatta main road.

The gram panchayat office premises too is littered with garbage, and residents have complained that there is no waste management despite people paying crores as taxes. The locals point out that the BBP is one of the popular tourist attractions in the city, but the gram panchayat is not taking any action to clear the garbage.

Manjunath, a local, said despite numerous requests, garbage is not cleared.

“The Bannerghatta gram panchayat collects crores in taxes, but work is not done appropriately. The panchayat premises itself is littered with garbage and no one bothers to clear it up. We have made numerous requests for the garbage to be removed, but no one has responded. We request the panchayat president and officials concerned to take action against the garbage piles on the main road. We want our neighbourhood to be clean”, said Manjunath, a local resident.

Vajravelu, a local press distributor.

“People do not follow rules and litter garbage everywhere. The panchayat president and other officials concerned should implement some rules to curb garbage dumping everywhere. We want the gram panchayat and BBP premises to be clean”, said Vajravelu, a local newspaper vendor.
