UDUPI : Notorious underworld gangster Bannanje Raja arrived in Udupi on emergency parole on Sunday to perform the last rites of his father Sundara Shetty. Bannanje Raja had applied for parole before the High Court, which was granted with strict conditions.
Raja is serving a life sentence at Belagavi’s Hindalga Jail after being convicted in 23 cases.
According to Udupi SP Dr Arun Kumar, Raja’s parole is valid from May 3 to 14, during which he is allowed to participate only in the funeral rites.
Speaking on the issue, the SP added that Raja is under strict police security and has been warned not to engage in any activities with associates. Mobile phones and internet cannot be used. He cannot leave the house except for attending the funeral rites. After the parole period ends on May 14, Raja will be escorted back to the Belagavi jail.
