HASSAN: A Ganapati idol at a temple in Belur town was found desecrated on Sunday, with a pair of footwear placed on it, sparking widespread outrage among locals. Locals staged a snap protest, demanding the arrest of the miscreant behind this sacrilegious act.
However, later on, CCTV footage revealed that the act was committed by a mentally ill woman. Earlier, locals gathered near the temple, demanding justice and immediate action against the perpetrators.
Belur Tahsildar Sridhar Kankanwadi and Police Superintendent Mohammad Sujeetha visited the protest site to convince the protesters and assess the situation. Meanwhile, priests performed a purification ritual for the desecrated Ganapati idol to restore its sanctity.
