BENGALURU: Cyber fraudsters have taken to a new scam, creating fake accounts in the name of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and sending messages promising three months of free mobile recharge.

The fraudsters are sharing fake posts and links on WhatsApp and Telegram groups, claiming that recipients will receive Rs 749 worth of mobile recharge for free for three months. However, clicking on these links will result in financial loss.

The scam has spread to rural areas, causing concern among residents. Many have fallen prey to the scam after clicking on the links and losing money. Some of the fraudsters are sending SMS messages saying, ‘Don’t lose this opportunity’.

Authorities have warned people not to fall for the scam and to be cautious when sharing personal documents. Cybercrime police are conducting awareness campaigns to educate people about the dangers of such scams.

Despite these efforts, some people are still falling victim to the scam due to a desire to earn money in less time. Authorities have urged people to be vigilant and not to share their Aadhaar, PAN or other confidential documents with unknown individuals.

Anand, who received the fraud message, requested the public not to open such messages. “We need to be careful before sharing confidential documents, including PAN and Aadhaar. The Home Ministry must take some action against such scammers”, he said.
