Four-year-old boy dies after paint thinner catches fire inside house in Dharwad

While the boy died, the father is being treated for burns in hospital.

DHARWAD: A four-year-old boy died due to burns after a bottle of paint thinner kept near a burning lamp in the house caught fire at Santosh Nagar in Kelageri here on Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Agastya Mashal.

The lamp had been lit for warmth and the bottle of paint thinner was kept close by. Agastya, who was playing in the house, toppled the bottle of thinner which immediately caught fire. Even as the family members screamed in shock, Agastya had suffered severe burns.

The boy’s father made an effort to save him, but he too sustained burns. Both were rushed to the KIMS hospital, but Agastya did not survive. Meanwhile, the father continues to receive treatment at the hospital.

The family member panicking and neighbours rushing to their aid was caught on CCTV camera. The Satellite town police have registered a case.
