RAICHUR: Amid the prevailing drought conditions, four units of the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) at Shaktinagar here have shut down, leading to a drop in power production.
The RTPS produces about 80 per cent of the state’s electricity and four of its eight units have shut down owing to technical snags including leaks in the boiler tubes and coal bunkers.
The RTPS has a power production capacity of 1720 MW and now only, 665 MW of powerr is being produced as units 1, 2 3 and 6 are shut. The increasing summer heat has created an additional demand for power and with RTPS running at less than half its capacity, load shedding may not be a surprise, sources said.
