DHARWAD: Four members of the same family, including two children, died after falling into a well at Chikkamalligawada village the taluk on Friday. It is suspect that the family may have committed suicide due to debt-related issues.
The deceased were identified as Vithal Shinde (80), Narayana Shinde (42), Shivakumar Shinde, (12) and Shrinidhi Shinde (11). The incident occurred in Dharwad Rural police limits and the bodies were recovered from a well near the Yellamma temple and were sent to the district hospital for post-mortem.
Dharwad SP Gunjan Arya, who visited the spot, said, “The incident came to light when some cowherd boys saw some footwear and a motorcycle near the well and informed others, who then alerted the police around 2 pm. The dead include an aged man, his son and grandchildren. A case has been registered at the Dharwad Rural police station and further investigation is under way”.
