RAICHUR: Four members of a family, including a couple and their two children, died while another child is serious in hospital after consuming non-vegetarian food, at Kalluru village in Sirwar taluk. The deceased are Bheemanna (60), Eeramma (57), Mallesh (21) and Parvathi (19). Another daughter, Mallamma, is battling for life in the ICU at RIMS Hospital.
After consuming food on Thursday morning, the family had gone to work in the fields when they developed vomiting. They were taken to a private hospital, but did not survive. The dean of RIMS, Ramesh, said that traces of aluminium phosphate, which is used in pesticides, was found in the food samples.
Police Superintendent Puttamadaiah and Deputy Commissioner Nitish K visited the hospital on Friday. After meeting the doctors, the DC said Bheemanna died of a heart attack while the others suffered hypoglycemia and multi-organ failure. The surviving daughter is in a state of coma and has been put on a ventilator. Efforts are being made to save her, he said.
The DC further said the cause of death will be known only after a forensic examination. A case has been registered at the Sirwar police station.
