CHITRADURGA: Four members of a family, including a friend, died on the spot, and three were injured in a ghastly accident after the driver dozed off at the wheel while overspeeding in the wee hours on Sunday.
The accident took place near Mallapura village in the district. While four people died on the spot, one more succumbed at the hospital. The accident occurred when they were travelling from Vijayapura to Chikkamagaluru and the car rammed into a lorry from behind.
The deceased have been identified as Sanganabasappa (36), wife Rekhamsa (29), relative Bhimashankar (26) and son Agastya (8). Bhimashankar’s friend Madhusudhan (24) succumbed at the hospital. He was from KGF in Kolar and was was a PSI aspirant.
All the deceased belong to the same family hailing from Kudari Salavadagi of Basavana Bagevadi taluk of Vijayapura district. Sanganabasappa’s other son, Adarsh (3), daughter Anvika (5) and the car driver suffered injuries in the accident and were admitted to the district hospital.
The accident took place in Chitradurga Rural police station limits. Superintendent of Police K Parasuram visited the accident spot.
