BENGALURU: The Jigani police have arrested four foreign citizens, including Pakistani national Rashid Ali Siddiqui alias Shankar Sharma, and his Bangladeshi wife Rubina alias Rani for illegally residing in India.
Siddiqui had escaped from Pakistan to Bangladesh due to religious differences where he married a local woman Rubina. He then moved to Nepal where he joined the Mehdi Foundation and worked with religious leaders.
In 2014, he illegally entered Delhi with his wife and obtained fake documents, including an Aadhaar card, driving licence and passport. Siddiqui moved to Bengaluru in 2018 and lived in Jigani with his wife Rubina and two children.
Central Intelligence officials provided information leading to his arrest. Islamic preacher Yonus Algor of the Muslim Fundamentalist organization (MFI) had reportedly advised Siddiqui to move to Bengaluru for religious propagation. In Bengaluru, Siddiqui befriended Wasim and Altaf, members of the same organisation. With their help, he settled in Jigani and started an online biryani delivery business.
The Police have seized a laptop, TV and mobile phones from his residence and are investigating the laptop’s data. Senior police officials including Bengaluru Rural Additional SP K S Nagraj and Central Zone IG Labhu Ram are investigating the case.
