Four dead as car, truck collide head-on near Hungund village

The truck and the car collided head-on in the wee hours today.

BAGALKOT: Four people died after a car and a truck collided head-on near Dhannur village in Hungund taluk on the Hungund-Muddebihal state highway in the wee hours on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Lakshman Vaddar (50), Bylappa Biradar (40), Ramanna Naikamakkal (55) and car driver Rafeeq Mulla (23).

All the four died on the spot. The occupants of the car were returning to their native village Bidarakumbi in Vijayapura district after visiting the Huligemma temple when the accident occurred. The car was heading towards Muddebihal while the truck was going towards Hungund.

It is suspected that the driver may have dozed off behind the wheel. The car was completely crushed due to the impact of the collision. The bodies were shifted to the government hospital in Hungund for post-mortem examination. The Hungund police visited the spot and have registered a case.
