BENGALURU: Four people died on the spot, including a 5-year-old child, while other 16 passengers were injured, two of them seriously, after an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus collided with a lorry on the highway near Gottipura Gate in Hoskote of Bengaluru Rural district early on Friday.
The deceased have been identified as Keshav Reddy (44), Tulsi (21), Pranati (4), and another one-year-old child. Later, another child also succumbed to injuries at a hospital, taking the death toll to four.
The APSRTC bus was travelling from Tirupati to Bengaluru. The bus, bearing registration number AP-03-Z-0190, crashed into the lorry from behind while attempting to overtake it. It is suspected that the bus driver was drowzy, leading to the accident. The impact severely damaged the front portion of the bus.
The injured are being treated at Silicon City Hospital in Hoskote. The Hosakote traffic police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. The victims were passengers traveling from Andhra Pradesh to Bengaluru on the APSRTC bus.
