Four arrested for honeytrapping man, had extorted Rs 2.5 crore from him over 3 years

BENGALURU: Four people, including a woman, have been arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police for honeytrapping a man and blackmailing him by sending his private video. The accused, who had been blackmailing and extorting money since 2021, sent private photos on WhatsApp and threatened the victim, ultimately extorting over Rs. 2.5 crore.

The arrested are Tabassum Begum, Ajimuddin, Anand and Abhishek. The victim is a 48-year-old employee of a central government agency. He had met Tabassum at a gym in RT Nagar and the two became friends.

The accused had initially asked for help, claiming that she had adopted a child and later began blackmailing the victim, sending private photos and threatening to share them with his family and friends. The accused had extorted Rs 2.5 crore over a period of time by claiming to be police and lawyers.

The man lodged a complaint with the CCB after three years and the four were arrested. The police are investigating the matter further.
