BALLARI: At least 100 students of the Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University here have received fake convocation certificates with forged signatures of the vice-chancellor and registrar. Each of the certificate was sold for anywhere between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000, it is alleged.

As per norms, students wanting the convocation certificates pay a fee which goes to the university. However, in this case, all the money has been pocketed by the fraudsters and forged certificates were issued to the students, causing monetary loss to the university. When some of the students asked for receipts, they were reportedly told that there were no receipts.

After the issue came to its attention, the university authorities have set up a committee to probe the incident. The action follows a complaint lodged by a girl student of the Kanakagiri First Grade College in Koppal. However, no action has been initiated by the university against the culprits so far.
