CHAMARAJANAGAR: A forest officer is in the dock for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 100 from a truck driver to let the vehicle pass through the Palar check post in Chamarajanagar district.

The forest officer, identified as Mohan, is posted at the Male Mahadeshwara wildlife reserve. In a video that has now gone viral, he is seen demanding Rs 100 as bribe to let the truck pass through the check post. When the truck driver and cleaner tell him that they have already given Rs 30, he gets into an argument and even threatens to shoot them.

The officer even threatens the duo that he is in uniform and will get them booked for “assaulting” him. In the video, Mohan can be heard that he was asking for Rs 100 as a “formality”, to which the truck driver says he’s ready to pay even Rs 500 if the officer can give a receipt.

It remains to be seen if the Forest Department takes any action against the erring forest official.
