Food poisoning: One more student of Malavalli pvt residential school dies in Mysuru hospital

The death toll has risen to two in the food poisoning incident.

MANDYA: The death toll in the Malavalli food poisoning case rose to two on Tuesday with the death of another school student in a Mysuru hospital past midnight. The deceased was identified as Nameeb Mante.

Earlier, Kerlang (13), a student from from Meghalaya, had died on Sunday. The incident occurred at a private residential school in T Kagepura village Malavalli taluk. Meanwhile, there has been an improvement in the health condition of the 46 others who have been hospitalised.

The affected students and individuals are being treated at MIMS.

Police Superintendent Mallikarjun Baladandi has formed a special team under the Malavalli Deputy SP to investigate the case. On Tuesday, a police team visited the Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy Hotel belonging to Siddaraju, near the KSRTC bus depot where the forensic team collected food samples.

On Monday, an FIR has been registered against six people including the organisers of the Holi celebration, those who prepared the food and the school authorities.

One Pushpendra Kumar had organised Holi celebration for the Marwadi community at the Madanlal Kalyana Mantap last Friday and vegetable pulav had been prepared at the hotel belonging to Siddaraju. The next day, the leftover pulav was distributed among students of the Gokul Educational Institution at Kagepura.

After consuming the pulav, about 29 students had fallen ill and one of them died. About 30 others who took part in the Holi celebration too had fallen ill.
