Flower show at Lalbagh botanical garden draws huge crowds on weekend

BENGALURU: A large number of visitors flocked the day of Independence Day flower show at the Lalbagh glass house over the weekend.

Thousands of visitors thronged the floral exhibits and were seen busy in taking selfies, and shooting videos with their friends, families and partners. The stunning garden designs, gorgeous floral displays and the fragrance of flowers around the garden was a visual treat for all.

At the end of the third day on Sunday, about 67,549 people had visited the flower show. The total ticket collection was Rs 47 lakh and of the total number of visitors, 55,204 were adults, 9,345 were children, 500 were schoolchildren. On the first days, there were 27,000 visitors to the flower show and about Rs 20 lakh was collected.

This is the 214th flower show going on at Lalbagh and people of all age groups are participating in the show. The event was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday evening, and it has been put up at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore using tons of flowers.

Models of the Vidhana Soudha, Satyagraha Soudha, Mysuru Central Jail, a Karnataka map and Kannada alphabets created with flowers are the main attractions. A 14-foot-tall flower statue of Kengal Hanumanthaiah has been created at the flower show.

About 60 lakh flowers have been used to create a 36-foot-long Vidhana Soudha model (18 feet wide and is 18 feet tall). The Horticulture Department has procured flowers from Kolkata, Chennai, and other cities to put up the colourful exhibits. Varieties of flowers, including roses, anthurium, gerbera, orchids, and red hat pokers, have been used to create the exhibits.

Entry will be free for schoolchildren, for adults, it is Rs 70, and for children, it is Rs 30. Various contests have been organised for children. About 13-15 lakh flowers have been used to create the exhibits. About 200 CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the campus for security. The show will be continue till August 15.
