Floor leaders of I.N.D.I.A to meet Rajya Sabha LoP in Parliament tomorrow

NEW DELHI: Floor leaders of the newly formed Opposition alliance the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) will meet at the office of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament on Monday to chalk out the strategy for the floor of the House.

The meeting of the floor leaders will be held at 10 am on Monday.

The contentious National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, which aims to replace the ordinance giving the Union government control over Delhi’s bureaucracy, is scheduled for discussion and passage in Rajya Sabha.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will move the Bill in the Upper House.

Notably, the Opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha have announced not to support the Bill in the Upper House.

AAP Minister Gopal Rai while talking to ANI said that the Opposition parties will together protest against this bill tomorrow.

“Central government is trying to forcefully take the rights of Delhi. All the opposition parties will together protest against this bill tomorrow,” Rai said.
Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said, “I.N.D.I.A has a clear stand on this bill, we are against it.”

Notably, the Congress party has issued a three-line whip for its MPs, urging them to be present in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

“Very important issues will be taken up for discussion in the Rajya Sabha tomorrow, i.e. Monday, August 7, 2023,” Congress stated in a notification of August 4 which was made public on Sunday.

It further said that, “All members of Congress party in the Rajya Sabha are requested to kindly remain present in the House from 11:00 A.M. onwards till the adjournment of the House on Monday, August 7, 2023 without fail and support the party stand.

“This may be treated as most important, it added.

The Rajya Sabha on Friday was adjourned for the day amid a ruckus created by both the Opposition party members as well as the treasury benches.
The situation in Manipur dominated the proceedings of the of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, since it began on July 20, with the Opposition demanding the Centre to discuss the issue.

The Congress and opposition leaders are demanding a statement from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Parliament during the ongoing Monsoon session.

The Congress party has also called for a meeting of its Lok Sabha MPs in the party’s parliamentary office at 10:30 am on Monday.
The Congress is likely to raise its demand of reinstating Rahul Gandhi as Member of Parliament after the Supreme Court verdict in ‘Modi surname remark case’.

A copy of the Supreme Court order, that stayed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s conviction by a Surat court in a criminal defamation case, was formally handed over to the Lok Sabha Secretariat, party’s leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said on Saturday.

In a relief to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Supreme Court, in an interim order on Friday, stayed his conviction in the criminal defamation case over the ‘Modi surname’ remark.

The apex court issued notices to the Gujarat government and the complainant in July on an appeal of the Congress leader challenging the Gujarat High Court order. (ANI)
