HASSAN, MANDYA: In a horrific accident, five people, including a couple, died on the spot and five others were severely injured after a collision between two cars on National Highway-75 near Nagathihalli in Nagamanagala taluk on Sunday night.
The driver of a Toyota Innova MPV lost control over the vehicle and it hit the road median and jumped to the other carriageway. A speeding Maruti Swift car, coming from the opposite direction, hit the Innova which was in the middle of the road.
Three of those travelling in the Innova died on the spot while two others were injured.
The deceased have been identified as Srinivasmurthy (74), Jayanthi (60), Prabhakar (75) and Kishore (25) who hails from Chennai. Another deceased was yet to be identified. Srinivasmurthy and Jayanthi are residents of Hassan and Prabhakar is their relative.
The injured Gautham, Kevin, Shabarish and two others undergoing treatment at the Adichunchanagiri hospital. The two cars were completely damaged.
The accident occurred when the family was returning from Bangaluru after the attending a relative’s wedding in a hired vehicle. A group of friends were in the other car, and were returning from Chikkamagaluru to Chennai.
The accident occurred in Bindiganavile police station limits.
