Five from Bidar die in road accident near Varanasi, 7 others injured

The Cruiser passenger vehicle crashed into a truck from behind.

BIDAR: Five people from Bidar, who had gone to the Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj, died after the passenger vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a truck from behind on the national highway near Rupapur in Hardoi district on Friday. While three of the dead belonged to the same family from Ladageri Extension in Bidar, seven others were injured in the accident.

The Force Toofan vehicle had rammed into the truck from behind about 20 km away from Varanasi. The deceased include Lakshmi (57), Neelamma (62), Santosh (45), Sunita (40) and Kalavathi. The accident occurred when they were on their way to Varanasi from Prayagraj.

Environment Minister Eshwar Khandre posted on X expressing his condolence and said 14 people from Ladageri were travelling in the vehicle. He said the district administration has been directed to ensure medical attention for the injured and to make arrangements for the bodies of the deceased to be brought back to Bidar.

The group had started from Bidar a couple of days ago.

The bodies of the dead shifted to a hospital for post-mortem examination while the injured were hospitalised. The Mirzapur police have registerd a case in this connection.
