Five devotees visiting Male Mahadeshwar Hills killed in road accident

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Five devotees died on the spot while on a visit to Male Mahadeshwar Hills in a head-on collision between a truck and a car near Chikkinduvadi in Kollegala taluk, Chamarajanagara, on Saturday. The car overturned in a field due to the impact of the collision, and all five friends died instantly.

A group of friends wase going to Mahadeshwara from Kollegal to Mahadeshwara Hills and one of them was from Mandya. Police have visited the spot and are investigating the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Nikita, Srilakshmi from Mysuru, Suhas from Mandya, and Nitin. Of them, four were engineering students and one diploma student from MIT College Mysuru. The accident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Kollegal Rural police station.

All the five bodies have been shifted to the government hospital mortuary. All the mobile phones of the deceased were completely crushed. They were traveling to Mahadeshwara Hills for the Shivaratri festival when the accident occurred.

Among the deceased is Srilakshmi from Kempapura in Kollegal taluk. Her parents had settled in Mysuru for her education. “She was the only beloved daughter of my brother”, said Srilakshmi’s uncle Paramesh, with tears in his eyes.

The tipper lorry driver is currently absconding. Chamarajanagara SP Dr B T Kavita said the police are on the lookout for the driver. A case has been registered at the Kollegal Rural police station.
