KALABURAGI: Five people died and 11 were injured after a mini bus (KA 22 C 2562) rammed into a parked truck (KA 28 A 7224) near Sonna Cross near Nelogi in Kalaburagi district around 3.30 am on Saturday, police said.
According to Kalaburagi police, four of the deceased were identified as Wajid, Mehboobi, Priyanka and Mehboob, residents of Bagalkot district. All the deceased belonged to one family. The mini bus was carrying 31 people from Bagalkot to Khwaja Bande Nawaz dargah in Kalaburagi. The injured have been admitted to the government hospital in Jewargi.
Jewargi MLA Ajay Singh visited the injured in hospital and and assured the injured of requesting the government to cover the cost of medical expenses. Kalaburagi SP A Srinivasulu visited the spot and carried out an investigation. The police have registered a case at Nelogi police station.
On Thursday, in another accident, four members of a family were killed when a KSRTC bus hit a car from behind in Mandya district on the Bengaluru-Mysuru express highway, police said.
The occupants of the car were on their way to Periyapatna when the hit them from behind near the Tubinakere exit. One person died on the spot, and the other three were rushed to the hospital, where they succumbed to injuries, Mandya SP Mallikarjun Baldandi said.
He added that the driver had slowed down the car near the Tubinakere exit to avoid the expressway toll when the incident occurred. The case has been registered at the Mandya Rural police station. (ANI)
