DAVANAGERE: A massive fire broke out on Someshwara Hill at Jammapura village in Jagalur taluk on Wednesday, causing widespread damage to vegetation and nearby farms. The fire is believed to have been caused by the Forest department’s attempt to create a fire line.
The blaze spread rapidly, engulfing nearby farms and destroying arecanut plants, drip irrigation pipes and sprinkler sets. The farmers were left devastated, with many losing their entire crop.
The fire was eventually brought under control by the farmers, who used coconut tree fronds to control the flames. The incident has sparked outrage among the farmers, who are demanding action against the Forest department officials responsible for the fire.
