UDUPI: An FIR has been registered against 11 BJP leaders, including Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, for protesting against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by burning his effigy and beating the CM’s portrait with footwear.

The protest was held on September 6 at Manipal’s Syndicate Circle, where the BJP leaders blocked the road and burnt the CM’s effigy. They also shouted slogans saying, ‘remove anti-Hindu Siddaramaiah’.

During the protest, Municipal Council member Girish Anchann and Youth Morcha leader Prithviraj Shetty beat the CM’s effigy with footwear.

NSUI leader Sourabh Ballal had filed a complaint in this regard, stating that the act was done with the intention of disturbing peace. Yashpal Suvarna is the fifth accused in this case.

A case has also been registered against City Municipal Council president Prabhakar Poojary, members Girish Anchan, Vijaya Kodavoor and Balakrishna Shetty at the Manipal police station.
