FIR registered against 6 after food poisoning incident in Malavalli

MANDYA: Following the case of food poisoning at a private residential school at Malavalli, wherein one student died and over 20 were hospitalised, an FIR has been registered against six people including the organisers of the Holi celebration, those who prepared the food and the school authorities.

One Pushpendra Kumar had organised Holi celebration for the Marwadi community at the Madanlal Kalyana Mantap last Friday and vegetable pulav had been prepared at the hotel belonging to Siddaraju. The next day, the leftover pulav was distributed among students of the Gokul Educational Institution at Kagepura.

After consuming the pulav, about 29 students had fallen ill and one of them died. About 30 others who took part in the Holi celebration too had fallen ill. The FIR has been filed against Pushpendra Kumar, Siddaraju, kalyan mantap staffer Krishna, Gokul Educational Institution head Lankesh, secretary Jagadish and staffer Abhishek based on a complaint from Block Education Officer Uma.

Meanwhile, a total of 46 people including 29 students, are undergoing treatment at the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS). The condition of one student turned serious and he was shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. Of the others, four are in ICU, according to MIMS director Dr Narasimhamurthy.
