BENGALURU: An FIR has been registered against seven individuals, including Police Inspector Kumar, two constables, Umesh and Anant, and four private individuals, after the Lokayukta police conducted a raid on the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police station.
The case was registered under Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947, which addresses the offence of taking a bribe by a public servant. The section also refers to the offence of obtaining undue benefit. The accused police personnel face imprisonment of up to seven years and fines.
Inspector Kumar and the constables were allegedly forcing a contractor to sell his house at a lower price to the inspector’s relative. They also threatened the contractor Chenne Gowda and offered to clear an old case in exchange for selling the house at lesser price.
A video of the incident was released, showing the police personnel harassing the contracor. The Lokayukta police raided the Annapoorneshwari Nagar police station last week based on a complaint from Chenne Gowda, but inspector Kumar had fled.
An FIR has been filed, and further investigation is under way. The accused police personnel will face action under the law if found guilty.
