BENGALURU: An FIR has been registered against the gunman of former minister Halappa Achar at Vidhana Soudha police station for allegedly cheating people by taking money from them with the promise of getting their work get done.
Halappa Basappa Achar was Minister of Mines and Earth Sciences as well as Women and Child Development and Senior Citizen Empowerment in the previous BJP government. The complaint was filed against his gunman Raghavendra at Vidhana Soudha police station.
In 2020-21, Raja Naik, one of those who was cheated, came to Vidhana Soudha to ask for help from the minister to construct an anganwadi building at Sri Rama Nagar village in Davanagere district.
The accused Raghavendra got to know Raja Naik and convinced the latter that he would get Rs 30 crore released through the minister and demanded a 12 per cent commission to which Raja Naik agreed.
The accused took Rs 10 lakh and when Raja Naik put pressure on him, he returned Rs 4 lakh by crediting it in the account of Raja Naik’s friend, but did not return the remaining Rs 6 lakh.
Later, Raja Naik filed a complaint against the gunman and the police are now on the lookout for Raghavendra.
