BALLARI: In an embarrassing case for the district and state BJP, the party’s district vice-president, G T Pampapathi, allegedly demanded Rs 40 lakh from a mining transporter, Chandru, who is also a BJP leader. An audio conversation of the two has now gone viral.

Pampapathi, a known history-sheeter, reportedly threatened Chandru, saying he would file a complaint with the Lokayukta and damage his reputation if he didn’t pay up. The demand was made in exchange for allowing Chandru’s company to transport iron ore from Ballari to Goa.

The accused, Pampapathi, had allegedly threatened Chandru, saying, “We will file a complaint with the Lokayukta and tarnish your image.” The demand for Rs 40 lakh was made to allow Chandru’s company to transport iron ore without any hindrance.

Chandru’s company had already transported 4,000 tons of iron ore by rail, and Pampapati allegedly demanded Rs 1,000 per ton, amounting to Rs 40 lakh. Chandru has lodged a complaint with the police, submitting audio recordings of the alleged threats and demands made by Pampapathi.

Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered against Pampapathi and two YouTubers, who allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh from Chandru. The police have taken up the case for investigation, arrested the accused, and sent them to judicial custody.

The incident has caused embarrassment to the BJP leaders in Ballari, as Pampapathi’s alleged involvement in extortion and threats has raised questions about the party’s internal discipline and control. The police are investigating the matter further to determine the extent of Pampapati’s involvement and the role of other accused individuals.

The police have registered a case against Pampapathi and two YouTubers under relevant sections and are investigating the matter. The case has sparked controversy, with many questioning the BJP’s decision to appoint Pampapati as a district vice-president despite his history of criminal activities.
