HASSAN: An engineering student at MCE college on Salagame Road in the city committed suicide by hanging at his hostel room on the college premises on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Darshan, a final-year civil engineering student.
As soon as the news spread, hundreds of students gathered in front of the hostel building. The Pension Mohalla police visited the spot and deployed police personnel for security. However, the reason behind Darshan ending his life was not immediately known.
Darshan was the son of Nanjunde Gowda and Mamatha, residents of Turuvekere in Tumakuru district. The body was shifted to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) for post-morterm examination before being handed over to the family.
