Fifth member of family from Raichur village who was in coma also dies

RAICHUR: The death toll in the curious case from Kallur village in Sirwar taluk, where four members of a family had died after consuming food on August 1, has risen to five with one more member succumbing at the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) on Thursday.

Mallamma (23), who had been hospitalised on August 1, did not respond to treatment and died on Thursday. Three other members of her family had died of multi-organ failure while one had suffered a heart attack earlier.

Four members of the family had died on August 1.

Bheemanna (60) had suffered a heart attack while Eeramma (57), Mallesh (21) and Parvathi (19) had died of multi-organ failure on the same day. While the district administration and the police are awaiting the forensic report to ascertain the caused of death, it is suspected that pesticide was mixed in their food.
